Have you wondered what your personal style is? Is it boho-chic? Street style? Classy and chic? Edgy? Life changes and so does your wardrobe. It happens over the years. You’re out having lunch with your girlfriends and most times, the topic of shopping and clothing will come up. Y’all are talking about a major event that’s approaching and you need something to wear. You wanna be fashionable, fly, and flawless.
So, off to the closet, you go and you have nothing to wear. Closet melt-down kicks in. I’ve been there before and it gets frustrating. You probably have a dress to wear, but it’s not new or stylish enough to wear. In this blog post, I hope to help you discover your personal style. Here are 4 tips to discovering your personal style.
Find your Inspiration
First, find your inspiration! What’s your inspiration for styling your wardrobe? Where are you drawing your style from? Is it your favorite actress? Your favorite fashionista? One of your favorite fashion magazines? These are some good places to start. Because, once you find out what inspires you, the sky’s the limit. Let’s go a bit further and I’ll add that we live in a social media world of fashion bloggers and influencers. They’re constantly posting on their Youtube channel, blogs, and social media pages. You will see the latest trends from some of the top brands around the world. Offering fashion tips to help you style certain pieces they’ve purchased.
Pinterest fashion board
Pinterest is another medium for you to get some inspiration by creating a Pinterest fashion board just for Fashion Inspo. Break it down into categories: professional clothing, dresses, girl’s night out, basics, and fun in the sun. This will help if you’re feeling overwhelmed and don’t know where to start for inspiration. Girlfriends let’s get inspired!
Confidence is Key
Second, where is your confidence? You may be saying, I’m not feeling confident at all, I’ve gained weight over the months. This last year dealing with Covid-19 and working from home helped pack on a few pounds. You shouldn’t let that stop you and the weight loss should be motivation to get back in those designer pants you’ve spent 150.00 for. We wear everything we purchase and wear it more than once, so let’s get to it! There is nothing more fabulous, than a confident woman strutting down the street.
She’s confident, happy, and loves the outfit she’s put together. So, now you’ve found some inspiration to purchase new items or stick to the essentials. Girlfriend, get in that closet and start creating the look you’ve always wanted. Whatever style you choose, be excited about it. It’s your style and no one can rock it better than you. Feeling our best every time we leave the house boosts our confidence. We have to admit, we love when we get compliments on our outfit.
Get Creative
Third, let’s get creative! Fashion and creativity go hand in hand. You don’t style one without the other. In other aspects of our lives, we look for ways to be creative. Why not apply that same thinking when you want to give your wardrobe a boost. Find a color palette that you love. If you know what colors you love to wear, that’s a pretty good start. Find fabrics that you can’t wear without. Do you prefer silk over polyester? Accessories are a bonus when you’re curating a style of your own.
Think about buying belts, scarves, and hats to freshen up certain looks. Showcase more of your personality when putting outfits together. Wear heels instead of flats with those jeans. Add a jean jacket over that floral maxi dress. Find ways to dress your body type, trust that whatever styles you create make you feel good and when you feel good, you look good.
Shop Your Closet
Lastly, shop your closet. Take a look at your closet before you go on a shopping spree. Don’t go out and buy a whole new wardrobe at first. Unless you’re ready to get serious about defining what your style is. It’s so many ways you could pair different looks to have a complete outfit. If you love black, white, and pink, take a look in your closet and see how you can put at least three outfits together. You’ve been inspired by looking at your favorite fashion blogger or favorite actress, and you’re digging their style. They’ve given you some inspiration to create those looks you’ve been desiring.
If you don’t have the suggested items in your closet, then I would go shopping. Always remember that if you can’t wear it more than two or three times, keep it on the rack. Unless you gotta have it or it’s a designer piece that would be different. Once your finish shopping for a few new items, start creating outfit ideas.
